MS Slammer swimbait

In the world of big swimbait fishing the MS Slammer is an icon. It is responsible for an untold number of truly giant bass. As iconic as it is in swimbait circles, to many “traditional” bass anglers the lure is totally unknown. This is a hand crafted wood lure individually carved, waterproofed and painted by a single person. If you are at all into lures with character and heritage, and if you are a pursuer of truly big bass you would do well to arm yourself with the MS Slammer. In this video I’d like to acclimate you to this tried and true trophy bass lure.

Gear used in video:

Lure: MS Slammer 7″ single joint, perch color
Rod: Okuma Guide Select Swimbait – 7′ 6″ M/H power, M/F taper
Reel: Daiwa Zillion
Line: McCoy 20lb coplymer

  1. sometimes a mimic is more convincing to a bass brain than a perfect replica, they simply don't think the way we do or see things the same. Ultimately the bass decide which lure is the best, I just discovered this unique and potent lure, thanks for the vid!

  2. I caught my PB on a 9 inch x2 deep crank blue gill. It was a 7.8. Massachusetts bass caught in June 2016. I own about 20 slammers. Minis to 10 inch. Got a slammer snake and slammer eel. I’ve caught many 5s and few over 6. 6.13 and 7.8 being the biggest.

  3. FARKIN awesome!  Unfortunately, I have tried that same theory in Coastal saltwater, using monster baits for just monster Speckled SeaTrout. I have caught some, but alot of shying away from such giant baits. I believe it's a Bass/Pike thing more than a saltwater thing. Tarpon eat a lot of 3" shrimp, then a 13" mullet it seems. So elephants do eat peanuts, is the theory I go by. But I still cast a few monster lures here and there when the time is right.

  4. Thanks for your help buddy . Do you think the 711 h would be a bit less stiff than the 76 mh I feel like it would be less stiff because of the length . ?? This winter is killing me I wanna fish so bad lol I enjoy your videos very good I'm from ma area and I have alot of the same gear you have. Have a good day

  5. Hey I'm trying to decide which okuma guide select to get I fish from 1/2 0z to 3 0z I ordered the 711 mh guide select but I'm worried it will be to soft at the tip I want somthing stiff but not to stiff in between should I get the 711 h or the 76 mh ? Please help thanks buddy

  6. I noticed you had a snap and a split ring in your first demo shots, but removed the snap and tied directly to the split ring when catching the fish at the end.  What do you prefer?  I would think to avoid as much metal as possible, so long as action isn't affected.

  7. One of the key parts of swimbait fishing isn't the profile from the side as you look at it on a table but the fish's perspective of the profile from down below it. Don't let the length fool you,  that is a 5.5" bait to the fish from below with a rather fat profile. Especially in NJ were the lakes south of freehold don't exceed a mean depth of 8 feet, your going to fish floating and subsurface models most of the time. The slammer because its got a fat profile seems to eliminate a lot of average fish for me. You can downsize the profile with other bait options, thinner baits will get a higher bite percentage here in NJ.

  8. great video as always, I have started to get into swimbaits the bigger ones.  No luck yet had a good frog bite at mountain the other day to bad my tournament there was not as lucrative.  None the less great vid, and I have been trying the glide baits to no avail, I need to just take a day and throw it.  Also if your up for it im going out to G lake tom but sat we should fish.

  9. what type of rod? Heavy? extra heavy? and what gear ratio on your reel do you like for your swim baits? Nice catch keep it up man. I live in New Jersey and I can understand the stress of not being able to fish all year round and not catch giants.

  10. dude!  that is a summertime giant slayer!  upgrade the hooks and go slay a giant!  but you are right.  everyone raves about the 9" model.  even 1 lbers will hit it!

glad you got the got em coach real gillz!  such a sick lure.  hope you stick a giant on that too!

  11. Ha ha, I welcome you to the world of big bait fishing!!! Don't be surprised if you sell all of your other gear. Excellent video dude, you covered all of the important details right on down to the STE recommendation. That DVD came out shortly after I made the commitment to big baits and it was instrumental in giving me confidence. I could watch 2 hrs. of Huddleston talking his philosophy.

My first big bait fish came on the 9" Slammer, 6 lb class fish. Funny enough my first Slammer fish was a dink of a smallie. You'll find that smaller fish still hit these baits, just not as often so don't sleep on going even bigger.

Hit me up if you wanna talk big baiting in the Northeast. Again great job on the video.
