Great video
You ain't alone I hate that lake.
Ok, so I've watched 2 videos where you were fishing a swimbait and both times you cast and backlashed and snapped off your swimbait, I can't tell if your throwing it on straight braid but if you use mono leader on your braid you won't snap your lure off if you backlash. The mono stretches and absorbs the shock
Nothing better than braid Brotha. I don't use wire!
Hello Bearded Friend,
Just found your channel. Love the stuff I am seeing. So you wanna throw big baits huh?
I am no “expert” like some swimbait throwers, but I have spent my fair share of money on these baits (which is how a lot of guys claim to be experts with no catching). But I have also caught some decent fish using them in Cali, so I consider myself a novice. Anyway, you got the first bait that matters, a Huddleston. Second, a glide bait, good choice on the Deps 250. Triple Trouts are a great and probably THE post spawn/summer swimbait to have. Think of it like a giant rip bait.
But I would avoid using the big hard baits due to price and they can get overwhelmingly complex. I would suggest you look into some soft baits! A few more trout styles, but I would recommend a few bluegill baits as well. Mattlures makes a bluegill bait that is unparalleled in detail for a “good” price. I believe it’s the hammer tail. Also, 3:16 Lure Co. makes some great “inexpensive” $14-$24 soft baits. Weedless baits and open hook baits that are versatile and rugged. These range from 4”-8” and are bootail design and get BIT! Don’t look at their hard baits cause they are pretty much impossible to get and you aren’t there yet (no offense).
Next I would say, use the single strand wire stinger rig that Tactical Bassin uses for the Huddelston instead of that abomination you currently have. Reel looks fine, a bit big and bulky for all day use, so I would suggest a 300 sized reel (Cardiff or tranx, your choice)
From a personal stand point, the “Big Bait Scene” as a tool to add to the boat. DO NOT go swimbait only. Yes I agree go out for a trip or two during the prespawn throwing them exclusively, you will learn a lot of how they move and attract fish… BUT, they are not the end all be all people talk about. I went 7 years straight fishing swimbaits 24/7 spending thousands of hours with very few fish to show. Yes I did catch my PB (twice, 8lb 13oz) and one giant that was pushing 12 (no scale). But I would say it isn’t worth it for a handful of fish a year that would have probably come off a jig along with hundreds of other fish.
That’s just my opinion on big baits my dude. Sorry for the book, but I have heard that monologue at the end 100 times over. Keep fishing man and stay bent!
I love it you’re a humble guy finally someone being honest about fishing some days it just does’nt work out tight lines.
That 250ss is “mullet” color. I’ve been throwing big baits for about 2yrs now. It’s definitely a different game. More like hunting. I’m struggling my ass off but it’s so fun!! Keep it up man.
Just with your humbleness and your videos being true you have a new sub. I love the fact but you show it like it is. Myself I'm trying to get into the swim bag game but it's intimidating. Keep up the great work
Get some smelly jelly and apply it to your Hudd. It acts like a "lube" and makes it slippery. It's supposed to help the bass eat it easier since its lubed up and they'll like the taste.
What is your pb?
Never fished a big swimbait, just not my style. Fairly wond is more my style, yes I said it. Good video.
Slow down your retrieve. That is the number one thing that helped me out when i first started throwing big baits. The longer the cast and slower you go the higher the chance of catching that big one.
Leave all your other rods at home. Rig up a deps and a Hudd and throw them all day. Will take awhile to learn what your baits are doing under water and how to manipulate them with your reel. Also where to throw them and angles etc. will take a while as well. Our lakes usually are one with the kicker coming off a big bait. Also the right equipment is necessary to get the bait out there far enough.
Keep it up man
Did the same thing a couple weeks ago for the first time. It was hard to stay with something that wasn’t working, but in the end I feel I learned how to work the baits better. Time will tell if the fish agree.
appreciate the humbleness!
Big swimbaits are fun but can be very challenging, I've dinked around in this game some too
This man got the Deps omg big stackin out here
