Yup I'll just keep making my own baits that don't need modding.
Depends on your level of understanding. That lure wouldn't make it in my book.
God bless whoever earned that bronze star! Next that’s an incredible mod simple but definitely seems effective
Randy, you have always preached how terrible the sexy Shad color is on crank baits. You are making the swim bait sexy Shad, why is a ss crank bait a terrible color, but you are turning the swim baits into sexy Shad?
Landlock alewives in my area got black tails- i color the swimbait tails black to copy in pressured, clear lakes.
Was hoping you would use the scissors … like you did the last time … when you hacked the sides off a "Fat Impact" to turn it into an "Easy Shiner" while calling it your "Most Closely Guarded Swimbait Modification Ever". If you need more scissors, highlighters, or other craft supplies for your retirement home, I'm happy to help by watching and commenting. Have you found a use for bingo daubers in any of your hacks?
Even tho I'm new to bass fishing, I've watched tons of vids in the last year , probably 200+ hours.
One common thought is that bass get used to certain lures.
Literally every pro believes this. And it makes common sense.
Which is why I don't buy the " hot take " at Bass Pro. Only the newest stuff from Japan. And only if there's a vid of it in water.
Amazing how much $$ stays in my pocket now, and I catch more fish now. Even tho those products are 2x or 3x the cost of " tried and true " rack at Bass Pro. Jackal, Norries, Geecrack and Megabass is damn near all you need.
( I've often though Bass Pro should really be Bass PROBE . Considering they'll probe every corner of your wallet and every orifice on your body for that last dollar )
Randy, i have tried a lot of your modifications and let me tell you, THEY WORK!!
OMG Randy…You said it…the absolute best bait in the world..is the one that you have confidence in.
I have made similar color adjustments on swim baits. When I place the bait into the bag that the others are kept, the colors bleed badly onto the fresh baits.
Should I discard the bait after the fish day?
I need that marker. I'd try these tricks on my flounder jigs.
Very interesting Randy!
Is that your dad's bronze star in the background? Awesome
We really don't know how color looks to a bass we only really know what appeals to them in certain conditions
Spike it markers are a good idea but I wish they’d stop making their dye using acetone. I’ve done side by side tests and even compared to similar colored permanent markers they get bit less. They work great at changing color I just feel like they could do so using chemicals that are less of a put off for a bass’s sense of smell/taste.
I’m a tinkerer as well Randy, I’ve also found trimming the sides of the tail slightly can alter the swim of the tail, changing it from a wide wobble to a tighter shimmy. This I think is better than having to carry a separate swimbait type that has the different action.
i believe it looks more natural with the modification to me i could be wrong
Great info and thanks for sharing.
Here you go Randy. I've spent a little time studying vision and it turns out that bass see chartreuse as pink. So the bloodline tip absolutely makes sense 🤔
I've even "spiked" the thin edge of the tail. Or a black edge to imitate baby bass. 🫢
Give is the juice in one video Randy! Show us the head with mods you would put that on and the conditions youd throw it in then another!
5:02 Dang. That is a fish catching difference
Great stuff Randy and I did get some of these markers and the added scent is an extra bonus to the modification. Thank you!!
Why not just throw a chartreuse Keitech?
