Small Swimbaits For Pressured Bass

Matt and Tim hit the water on a post-frontal, windy day. Instead of battling the conditions they dropped down to small swimbaits and underspins and had a great day!

When we talk about swimbaits and paddletails its normally a conversation about big baits. But when the going gets tough you have to adapt to the conditions. Dropping down to a small swimbait with or without an underspin blade is a great way to get bit in even the toughest conditions!

With the storm blowing out and the post frontal conditions setting in we dropped all the way down to 8 lb test on spining rods with little 1/8 oz swimbait heads and 2-3″ swimbaits. We may not have caught any giants but we had a blast on a difficult day!

These same methods are a pond fishing secret and work equally well when creek fishing or bank fishing in pressured waters. Its amazing what will eat a little swimbait when they won’t eat anything else!

  1. Pretty gooshy video guys! That said, it’s obvious that you two are true brothers obsessed with a common goal. And, I truly appreciate it. My question is; How would either of you approach a Southern California reservoir ( smalll/deep), that is VERY highly pressured? Where,( unless it’s the May algae bloom) the viability is on average 15-20’+. And, has giant bass in it! Plus, rarely does time of year, or weather make much of a difference… only simple bass patterns & lake turn over… hence the algae. The reason I ask is that the lake I’m referring to was my nemesis until you two taught me different. I catch bass every time I go now. Mostly dinks or 1-2 lbs. Looking to catch larger bass🤷🏼‍♂️🎣

  2. Another great show guys. It's good to see your human.. Sorry too get off the subject, but I'd like to know if you use lure retrievers for your expense baits. I know you fish deep and at night.

  3. I was using the smaller swim baits last year and did great with them, I haven't got to get on the water lately due to work, But gonna hit the water tomorrow morning to try this out again! You guys are always right on top of the seasons and transitions. Keep e'm coming guys!
