  1. I looked at a Tranx last year ( the 400 hg) and wound up buying a Daiwa Prorex instead. It had almost twice the drag 30 lbs compare to 18 lbs, plus the T-wing level wind for casting. And I love it. Smooth, great drag, casts a mile. but yesterday I saw a good deal on a new tranx 400 at a swap meet and bought it for $275 full of 40 or 50 lb braid. Weird that the Tranx 300 has 22 lbs of drag and 400 has only 18. But I'll give it a try. Let's see how it handles a 45 lb river striper. Used it for a few weeks now and I like it. It looks gorgeous on my swimbait rods and casts well, its smooth. I got the 400hg. Only issue is my drag goes from zero to max in only like 2 clicks of the star drag. Have 50 lb power pro on it now. Love the power handle

  2. i have 4 Curados and love them, but my next reel may be the Tranx 400HG to go on my first dedicated swim-bait rod…(thinking Dobyns 807 or 867) it has a single power handle, but I will probably change it to the large paddle handle that is on yours and i agree that the older Curados are very cool looking!

  3. Nice review, but Shimano just too much money for me.. I am using the lews skipping and pitching.. I can never sling a bait 100 yard, nevertheless 220+ yards.. so all you are doing there is wasting line. The lews Sp has 20# of drag. so very close to this one.., and the lews is nearly half the cost.. Shimano makes nice products, but they are too proud of them for budget
