On this Friday afternoon, we hopped out of the office early to practice for an upcoming ABA Bass Tournament on the Chickahominy River. The day started off on a higher tide and I just couldn’t located the fish, swapping through a lipless crankbait, wacky rig, dropshot and chatterbait and multiple locations in the first hour. After no signs of willing fish, I headed over to a creek that I knew some fish would be in, and to no surprise, we started catching them. A weedless soft swimbait, shallow water and an outgoing tide proved to be the ticket.
Big thanks to my wife for the extra hour. While the spot didn’t produce on tournament day like it did the day before (I probably waxed all the willing fish on this day), we did find a few in this creek. Otherwise, a fun day on the Chick, if only for a few hours.
