this is part 2 of a three part series covering our trip to one of the coolest places you’d ever want to fish.. clear water secluded and all kinds of brush and cover to throw to…
in the first part we were just figuring out what exactly they would hit on and just what size was in this pit…
well in this part we narrowed it down to pretty much pounders on swimbaits as we caught a lot of bass in a very short time on medium swimbaits weighing around a pound or just over…
well having seen a few pics charles sent earlier in the day i knew there were bigger bass to be had but where.. the topwater bite from earlier in the day didn’t produce anything very big but i did miss a few around two pounds..
well after watching fishing videos right here on youtube dealing with schooling fish and how bigger bass sometimes will just sit below smaller fish and let them more or less kill there meals for them i figured this might be the case with this pit.. the more aggressive smaller bass probably chase the real small baitfish and whatever falls into the pit and the bigger bass sit below waiting or at the least they just retreat to deeper water during the day to stay out of the craziness going on with these smaller bass that seem to be overloaded in this pit..
there’s several options i could have used for the deeper bite but ever since last season i’ve been having luck using the z man zinkerz in a watermelon and white fleck color just on a shakey head or in this case a biffle hardhead which i believe is the original swinging jig head…
the biffle hardhead just works great for almost anything you’d normally rig texas style… to me it’s just like having the weight pegged plus it works like a jig also… awesome bait…
well stay tuned for part three to see what else we came up with to catch them…
needless to say though the bottom bite worked once anyway and pulled the biggest fish of this trip in. not a giant but well over three and a pretty big head…
