My Profile:
http://www.mattstefanfishing.com/
I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I’ve been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I’ve qualified for ten MLF Championships and won almost a million dollars in tournament winnings at the professional level.
What hook do you use in the unrigged cullshad?
Matt what are you thoughts/opinion on the storm gt360 swim baits? I just started using them last summer and can't figure if I'm fishing them wrong or if they just suck lol
Hey Matt…with all the experience you have river fishing, please explain casting up, down, or cross current casting methods with the Core swim jigs…with little time on rivers, I'm always doubting my technique…thanks!
The "swammer" is my go to on swim jigs. I find they give me the best rolling action I'm looking for so the swim jig is undulating and doing it's thing without too much effort on my end…no Alabama shake or any of that for my swim jigs
I’m Swimbait poor 😂! I have used all of the ones you mentioned plus the Strike King brand. The one thing you didn’t mention was using them with an underspin, I like the Owner I think it’s called the Flashy Swimmer.
👍👍👍👍👍
Some favorites besides the usual keitechs/rage swimmers
Storm Largo Shad
WCZ Citizen 6”
3:16 Rising Son 6”
Little Creeper Fatty
The top boot tail for me is the Weedless Optimum Boom Boom in 4.5" and 6". I rig them with a really heavy jig head and drag them on the bottom, rig them with some custom weighted Owner Beast hooks that I make that gets the head to quiver like nothing else on the market, and of course I rig them with a line through set up. One thing I dont do is use them as a weedless weightless set up because the hook up ratio sucks!
This year I am going to play around more with the Bluegill profiles like the Berkley Gilley. I have already rigged a few up on some jig heads and line through and have been impressed so far. Once the Bluegill start spawning the Bass aint going to know what hit them. Not really a boot tail but the fish will never know.
The one that really baffles me is the KVD Swim N Shiner. I dont think I have ever caught a fish on one but I keep one rigged up in the boat for other people that might be with me to throw and somehow it works every time. My brother could hardly tell you the difference between a Bass and a Crappie but somehow he manages to keep up with me with that bait. Same thing with my Dad. Think I have hooked 2 fish on it over the years and neither one made it all the way to the boat before they got off. I just saw that rod today when I was rigging stuff up for this weekend I think there is more Mend It on that bait than there is plastic. LOL
Duckett rt shad
Z man mulletron
Fish lab bio minnow
Savage gear fat t
RI dippers, Keitech easy shiner, and Xzone swammer for go tos. … for larger swimbaits I like the 4”& 5” RAID full swing, beast coast miyagi, and then OSP dolive shad.
Dirty water river = more tail kick for better vibration? Thoughts?
My pocket book (and wife) are not happy this video came out. I'm a keitech guy, but it looks like I need to get a few others at this point. TW here I come again
4” easyshiner on a drop shot is my all time favorite! I can always catch fish on it when absolutely nothing is working
Thank you for sharing
Watched your old barometric pressure video again and I totally agree with you but I don’t agree with what that gauge on the thumbnail says. What’s your opinion on that gauge. Low is when I seem to do much better and high is terrible. That gauge is backwards IMO.
Shadilicous still good,I'm my opinion the hollow belly is better rigged sideways with weighted hook
🍺👍🤠….Almost game time.
I like Berkley ripple shads too
Great tips Matt, thanks 🙏 I just watched you arrive at your Kentucky lake house with Miles on his channel…. I grew up going to Kentucky lake from the late 50’s and I still go with my brother around Palm Sunday or the week before. We’ve been there for weeks at a time and I look forward to seeing you and the team do well in the Open 🍀🎣🍀🎣🍀🎣🍀🎣🍀🎣💯
What is good for very cold water baits right now if it is a average of 40 degrees outside?
I use several of the baits you mentioned but one I also use from 2.75-4” is the xzone swammer. It’s durable and definitely has the side roll along with a tail wag. Sure hope core tackle offers a tungsten tush hook soon to make the weight smaller and thus easier on the bait when rigging it.
i like putting a 2.75 strike king rage swimmer on a 1/4oz Midwest finesse swim jig. green pumpkin on both and dip the boot in chart dye. the bass love it. at least on the lakes I fish. looks just like a bluegill.
How about this. I posed this question to another YouTube / professional. There are lots of bass target plastic bait manufacturers out there. If your life depended on it and you had to pick one to get all your worms, craws, sticks, Neds, swimmers, etc., which one would you choose?
Did something today for the first time ever. Bought a package of Bridgford Jerky!!
How's the 💪Dirty "Gill" coming along? Great stuff again…
Does the TUSH jig work well with say a Strike King Shadalicious 3.5" swim bait given that it is hollow inside and may not grab the plastic as well, or is there maybe a better option? I just bought some of the 1/4 oz. TUSH jigs but haven't used them yet and thinking about the best weighted hook to use.
Matt just wanted to tell you my wife just made your wife’s turkey meatballs and they are off the hook. Hope her channel does very well.
Thanks Matt
nice lil video Matt!last year i tried a couple packs of bass assain swimbaits.there about 1/2 price of keitech and i cant tell them apat..so fwiw
I use a the 6 inch keitech swing impact with a twin frog hook for slop (duck wort) and Lilly pads. Very weedless. Great for bringing out of cover into open water. I use this for a switch up for a frog. Although I love a core tackle “tush” with a keitech swing impact.
I found a ring worm with a paddle tail will work great with a core hover strolling jig.
