  1. Been fishing big baits for awhile now and a soft bait is always the way to go. Hard baits are a money grab i mean The hard lures look coo and catch fish sometimes l but soft baits like the battle shad, burrito, huds, or mag draft just outperform everytime.

  2. Lovely looking Swimbait. Usually in that design the hooks and hook "harness" comes away from the lure allowing the lure to slide up the line away from the fishes mouth. This helps prevent the fish throwing the lure as easily and also protects the bait from teeth in case of pike or muskie for example.

  3. Amazing video once again Randy!hey ,I watch all your content, one thing I've always wanted to see was the rest of your shop.fine woodworking is a passion of mine and I can clearly see your shop looks either timber framed or cabin styled.a future video maybe showing your man cave would be great!

  4. Not everybody is tournament anglers. The guys like us that are putting in the time with them. Are looking for big bass not numbers. Maybe you should put in more time with them. Because while you may know a thing or two about conventional. It's clear you are a newbie and don't have much knowledge in the big bait game

  5. Big swimbait fishing is the one I'm trying to figure out. In my right ear I hear they say high sunmy days are when the bigguns come out to play being they have the advantage to see the lure from a far and from below. In the other ear randy says cloudy windy days which is it 🤔

  6. Randy, I just saw a video on the wired 2 fish Facebook page with you talking about Jerk bait fishing. You were using a bait caster??? I thought you only advocated for using spinning gear?

  7. That is a talented guy to do that kind of work. I believe it would be a good bait for some big bass. The problem down here would be keeping the gar from tearing it to shreds.

  8. randy ur late these are already hot in the swimbait community and hard as hell to get a hold of and not cheap which everyone seems to complain about lol there is so many more u will find this year that have been out for a while now.

  9. Good info ,i learn alot from your channel but i would like to see you fishing these baits .catchin fish would be awesom.id like to have one of them.baits ,i think he could do good selling them.i couldnt aford one but im sure alot of people can.

  10. I make the great majority of my own baits. The only lures I buy anymore are soft plastics and suspending jerk baits. I enjoy painting the lures to match a shad or bluegill ect. But as far as catching fish I catch just as many if not more on just a very simple color scheme such as chrome with a yellow back. Making your own lures is a lot of fun and very effective way to catch fish. I am sure it is taboo in the world of professional fishing. Lol

  11. From what I've seen in researching these baits. Seems like the bright blue sky days middle of the day. Go watch Ben Melinkin or Tactical Bassin YouTubers channel, even some of smaller tubers channels I've watched. That high sun, clear blue sky days. The drawing power, of making that bass of lifetime move from that stump or boulder at the end of a point, or brush pile and docks. I'm very knew to it myself. I got a couple bps and one river2sea glide bait. I haven't spent a day being committed to throwing just it, all day long. I know of a few lakes in my area of Southern Virginia and North Carolina, these baits would be worthy of throwing it all day to double digit up.

  12. Have to disagree with everything you say I only fish big custom baits that bait is no more than 150 -200 dollars i catch big fish early morning mid day and best is night you dont need any pre frontal conditions or big bass lake you need time on water with any bait you tournament guys just dont get it swimbaiting isnt for everyone it takes true dedication and mental preparedness thats all you need to catch trophy size bass its very hard work and very expensive but the payoff is worth every minute when fishing its not always about the fish its finding yourself and God Cheers!! :))

  13. I got into the big baits two years ago. I’ve definitely sunk some money into those setups and baits but I also lost a DD on one this past year. That was pre frontal. Twenty minutes later I was getting poured on.

  14. Ooh randy off the subject I just had a heated conversation on the Johnny tries to convince randy to get the latest fish finding tech, man these kids have no clue what it took or takes to win back in the day before all this modern tech ruined the the sport why we've seen a decline in the last 20, gps you had be able to read a map or be late to a weigh in you had to rely on experience not YouTube you had to read water and weather patterns to find the fish not flip a switch the best today would be last back against the old Schools pros no longer have the skills It takes to win back then I think people have their faces in there electronic devices enough now that it doesn't belong in one in the great outdoors the difference between anglers shouldn't be the electronic technologies on their boats

  15. Looks like pike and muskies food. That thing looks sick. You could definitely slaughter smallmouth on that in the spring when the shad/suckers run. That line thru design is a life saver. I have run the savage gear swimbaits and landed fish that for no reason should I have caught because that line thru design.

  16. The price explosion of these baits is largely due to collectors and flippers. People pay for ultra realistic looking baits because they look good, if there is a picture or 2 of someone catching an 8 pounder on it, it just adds to the value as the bait is now seen as aesthetically built and capable of catching fish.

The reality is there are fish catching MACHINES in the sub $100 range. Only a handful of baits above that have a similar reputation.

  17. great looking bait, alot of attention to detail! I make my own glidebait swimbaits as well, but I only work in wood. I also don't sell them, just enjoy making and fishing them myself. Also I live in north central Illinois, so muskies are always an issue! I agree, when you're making an effective bait, it takes a LOT of time…it's pretty easy to make an 'ok' bait, but to really tune one takes an incredible amount of time and effort. Probably a little easier if you're working in resin to reproduce and sell – but then it seems like you'll be spending all your time making baits instead of fishing, LOL!

  18. Lol, no offence to Randy or the Maker but… If the last few years has taugt the SB community anything. Its that ANYBODY can make a decent swim/glide bait in their garage. If he tried to sell this for more than $50 on a SB page he'd been torn apart.

  19. As part of what you are saying is true like the cloud cover and wind aspects is correct.
On the other hand I have been throwing swimbaits a very long time and many other factors come into play when throwing big baits like structure in lake type of forage and also the moon effects many aspects of these big fish bitting I have recorded and tracked big bass feeding habits when it comes to big baits and you can catch them on bright sunny days no wind and you can catch them during and before storms !
You can also catch them on big baits when it’s calm up tight on structure!
The only difference is water temp in lake which will determine which style of big bait to throw !

Keep up the great videos Randy that’s just my input on this subject thanks

By the way California lakes are the hardest lakes to fish with big baits small body’s of water and high pressure makes it difficult many many friends have come to visit and failed 👍🏽

  20. That thing is huge! What do you fish it with, a cable and winch? Lol

Kidding aside, there are some really cool hand made lures around. I’m fortunate enough to have a small Kayak, bait and tackle shop around the corner from me and he probably has about as much local (Arkansas) hand made made lures and plastics as he does brand name.

I wouldn’t necessarily say they’re any more effective (for me, a weekend angler) but I can definitely tell the difference in the quality.

I buy them sometimes. Example, I just bought two locally hand made jerk baits from him and I only paid $8 or $9 each for them and I get almost all of my plastic worms and grubs and such from him as, again, they’re locally made, But, as you alluded to, they often get pretty pricey and that’s the rub against a lot of hand made fancy lures.

One, I don’t have Jeff Bezos money.

Two, I’m a weekend angler and though I consider myself a decent angler, I don’t think I’m proficient enough at casting dead on accurate 100% of the time and would constantly worry about losing it to the point it might persuade me from throwing it where I might otherwise cast.

Three, if I lost some $300 lure I would rent a scuba diving suit and jump out of my boat and search high and low until I found it! Lol
