I've been on a conference where kazumasa okumura which is the deps swimbait creator and he explained that he found out that feathers helps to hide the light flashes that the hook would do in the water and also because he uses to fish a lot on the stop and go and the feathers kinda still moving during the fishing action , surely as you said they give to fish the target and they're easily visible , helps them to strike.

I get my feathers from old down pillows that have different natural colors other just white stuffed in them. Natural brown and beige even black sometimes and all different sizes… lol… repurpose. Good stuff Many!!!
