I started a new series during the Covid Pandemic called “This Is Home”. Without the ability to travel the country fishing as I normally do, I stayed home and did some exploring within my home state. Some of these fisheries may be familiar and some won’t!

Is there a reason your retrieval on your spinning rod is different from your bait casting rods ?
Brian I come out of the construction field like you Iβm a labor, but Iβm also a master plumber and I also do framing and I hold a MHIC license here in Baltimore Maryland, are use my 68 Saint Croix tournament legend bait caster, and a 68 Saint Croix Jiggin worm, with my three sit Daiwa Fuego 6.3 combination ratio 73 ratio and 8 to 1 ratio, and my third rod is a Boyd Duckett Triad 73 and I have my Tutuila 8 to 1 with my tournament drag but I also have a davit Dudley spinning rod 73 that Iβve been smashing fission for the past two years that only cost $68 and I got a $90 lews Hank Parker, but my thing is Shimano Corrado Hagan series 70 HG and not Shimano Sahara spinning reel 2500 Hagan and I have that match with a pen spinning rod and honestly they were great because every ride that I had from my tournament legends are the only ones that are still working from three to $400 rods and that was just three years ago and Iβve had my tournament St. Croix legends my bait caster rod for jerk baits and my other one for giga worm I paid almost $400 apiece and theyβre still working today my reels are all still working today and honestly my Mach 2 bait caster from Lews has caught my personal best ever of almost a 9 pound fish Bess that is , but I have snapped some Dobbin rods I had a buddy that worked at Dickβs that would get a lot of rods to go out and use and theyβre not worth it and I realize this most of the rods that are over $200 that are manufactured by the thousands has the wrong spine and thatβs why they do not have the best parabolic been to hold back and fight the fish good thatβs why a good fisherman a good anger always know when to keep the dragged play the fish out but you got a watch it said hook ainβt right youβre playing with danger Brian thanks for everything you made my spring my summer and I know the beginning and ending of this summer is going to get even better because ofyoubecause of Matt because of Randy Plunkett I love you guys I feel like I know you I watch so many these damn clips but youβre not wrong and like you always said Brian itβs what makes you feel right itβs what you can do just because someone else donβt like it donβt me to the right for them thatβs why I always like your opinion because when you speak your opinion someone with common sense and understands knows that youβre not saying that this is how it goes youβre saying that itβs how it works for you and how it works for lotta others you always have a blessed way on the road are you and your family and youβre right you deserve it you work hard Brother and anybody comes from landscaping youβre talking about keeping other things alive not even your average Joe can go to landscape
Yep this did help.
In the process of upgrading 15 yr old equipment.
Now that I've returned home from the big city, I can be at any given body of water fishing in minutes…..
Had sticker shock when I started this process, so yeS this helped…
Cheers,
& good luck.
Dam it you are the best.
I want a pro ti so bad thinking of buying one really soon good video ππ»
Brian you should try TFO rods if you haven't already, love them, light tuff and a lifetime warranty lol
Love all my LEWS reals!!!!
I don't have anything like you but they are the best. Smooth as all get out! Wish I could get a pro series. Thanks for all your tips!
What a good rod at $200 for one stick nick like me?? This market is just way over saturated these days..with a height of 7"2??
I love the honesty! I ainβt rich. Appreciate the honest content
what ever your career is you need the best of the best to perform your job. for a regular guy like me I don't. So 40- 70 dollars reel is fine plus it keeps my wife happy and you need to use big words you need to impress anyone if they don't get it thats there fault.
I have 2 of the Favorite Defenders, old version with the foam handles and the newer version with cork. I take them over most of my other rods. I havent had the chance to try my custom made $350 rod yet, but the defenders will be my truck rods. Great over all rod, and I'll use them for just about everything.
Does the pro series get mad at you for telling all
Fortunately for me that is true. I have 2 spinning reels. I caught 5 bass today on lake Miccosukee. I dont even have any electronics. So, for everyone out there who thinks they have to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars. You are wrong
I'm very new to fishing. Was just wondering what makes a real better for certain baits over others?
I always spend alot on reels but cheap out on the rod, there is only so much you can upgrade on a rod until you start paying "enthusiast" prices, ill throw a lews pro ti on a $100 duckett.
OMG…We don't need Apple to get their greedy hands on this hobby. Thanks Brian for the tips and real world of being practical.
Work hard, play hard. Love the Custom Pro's I have. Working on adding a Hypermag, and Pro TI to the lineup as well.
I don't feel like you had to explain why you have expensive reels bro. If you worked hard enough to get where you are and are also fishing Pro, I mean… Cmon bro. You gotta have the best
π€£ππΌππΌ."Don't come at me with that if you are commenting on a $1,000 cell phoneπ±" just catching up on some videos, and im finding some π gem's π€£ππΌππΌ.
Sensitive is everything im a G.Loomis and Lew's fan
You got to pay to play
i just buy walmart brand combos and they have lasted me for years!
Great advice for those who don't know how to control their spending.
Would you be selling them thru Bass Pto shops
I just picked up my first high end reel, there's quite a difference between using my $99 shimano slx and a $420 shimano metanium
You are right on about the reels. They take WAY more abuse than the rod (in most cases) and it can be VERY difficult to find a reel that is going to be smooth and last forever while spending less than $200. That being said, there are some "diamonds in the rough" out there if you look hard enough! I agree completely with you on reel price. If you are going to sacrifice on price, do it with the rod, not the reel. Excellent vid as usual!
Thank you brother, way to break out the phone price love it.
I skip lures on .my $80 kastking baitcaster lol. You are right B…. you can catch fish on cheap gear. Filthy skills are most important
Love this guy and love the way he looks at anything to do with fishing and really just life in general lol
Great video. Fish donβt know how much the combo is!
Good topic Brian, I have been busted up in tournaments by locals in a jon boat with a 1975 Johnson. Sometimes you have to get back to basics, but it's cool to have nice stuff.
I feel like $300-$400 rod and reel set up is pretty βcheapβ and normal for the market these days. The materials theyβre using, along with technologies, you can have a setup thatβll last a lifetime if taken care of. I mean they even have $150-$250 complete setups thatβll last.
Justified when no justification is necessary π
750$ Chinese plastic crap π
Brian, in your opinion what is the best rod to use for a top water setup?
Still roll an old Samsung S9, although I bought another Hyper Mag and Megabass plugs this week. #BassPriority
Do you or sponsor pay for your rod and reels, and why?
I really like my defender spinning rod. Looks great and a decent all around rod.
Sorry, a $40 Zebco 40 years ago still works, a $40 Zebco today is plastic Chinese junk
My favorite comment was… "Because I work hard and I deserve it." No truer statement has ever been made. We work hard, succeed, and want to really enjoy our precious play time. I'm like you. I like my stuff to feel good, look good, but most importantly, work good. Great Video, Brian!
6:58 right
Just like trucks, cars, guns, quads, screwdrivers, machinery are all tools, fishing gear is too. Donβt overdo it but donβt underdo it
Ha I got a $50 cricket wireless phone you thought u had all of us
I would like to know what lb. line are you throwing on the pro ti with fluke.
I agree. The reel is most important along with balance.gotta 50$diawa rod with a 150$ reel, but dang I can fish it all day
I caught a 4lb bass off of my moms 30yr old Zebco…lol
This guy uses Steez and tapes over the Diawa emblem then makes a video saying you dont need a 700 dollar rod. COME ON CUH
Fishing reels and rods are one of the most important things you use in your job. Like you if it feels right I sure like it and after use something made well you don't go back. Plus you cast all day quite a few days in a row . And lightweight sure helps and strength
Bro thank u for making this video and showing kids they don't HAVE to have 200$-$300 rods and reels… Some of these YouTubers have their priorities wrong an got kids thinking they got to have THAT particular equipment to catch a fish! Thank u sirr πβοΈπ£πͺπππ
Can you do a short video on drag? I've seen you making adjustments with fish on and that surprised me.
