Thank you for the tip! Makes sense after you explained it out. I’ll give it a try if the fish don’t commit. Rig it up and have it on deck if needed. I been catching a few on strike king AY color 3.25 rage swimmers. First year I ever threw this color bait. I like it.
Have you tried throwing a big jerk bait with treble hooks as a follow up? I fish with 1 casting rod from the bank so I don't have this opportunity.

Thanks for the tip! I wish I had seen this video before I went out earlier tonight. I got onto a good bite with a SK Rage Swimmer, but they were doing like you said, just kinda hitting at the bait and short striking without fully committing. I finally caught one by killing the bait and letting it fall after a thump, then the bass came back and got it once I started reeling again. Hooked into a couple others doing the same technique but they threw the bait and then another short striker ripped the plastic off my jig head and it was the last one I had on me ☹ I'll be sure to have a soft jerkbait rigged up the next time I'm throwing a swimbait!
Old time fishermen gave me some of the same advice when I was a kid and told me to "kill" the bait when a bass swipes at it, And then let it fall naturally on semi-slack line to bottom. The the bass will usually slurp it up either on the fall or as it sits on the bottom (give it some time and then give it barely a twitch on the bottom after a few seconds).. They told me to always fight the tendency to set the hook at those swipes, unless as you said you feel the weight of the fish. They told me it mimics a stunned or dying shad just like you said. Though you maybe young, you are an old soul with some sage advice. Those old fishermen knew their stuff and so do you. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the next generation of fishermen.

This happened today with me when I walking a bubble walker, this big bass followed it to the bank, I gave it a pause n she went airborne on it on the next twitch….tried to set the hook but I think she was still in the air n it came right out her mouth

Had this happen to me yesterday. This one fish hit my bait for 5 or 6 casts. Did not have a jerkbait tied on at the time, but I changed my retrieve just over where he was hitting. Finally landed him. No monster but still fun.
