Spring Underwater Footage | Bass Eating Jerkbaits and Swimbaits

Spring is your best opportunity to catch a new personal best bass. The big fish are up shallow looking for food and getting ready to spawn. The key to consistently catching big fish is finding the baitfish. If you find the food, you’ll find the biggest bass. In today’s video we discuss the 7 baits that you should have ready to go for those big prespawn bass.

Underwater footage gives us amazing insights into the underwater world. Its amazing how fast these fish move, how aggressively bite and conversely, how quickly they lose interest. Watch closely so you can identify the “triggers” that caused these fish to feed.

Always ensure that you have a bladed bait (A-rig, spinnerbait, underspin), or flashy bait (Jerkbait, Fluke, Squarebill, Glide Bait) ready to go during the Spring. Keep an eye out for subtle swirls, shoreline cover moving, or flashes in the water to alert you to the presence of baitfish. Find the bait is more than half the battle. Once you’ve located bait, the bass are sure to follow!

Below is a breakdown of the baits in the video as well as the baits we recommend for each category.

Great vide ready to rip some spring bass chasing bait fish ๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’ฅ had a good experience last year at success lake in Porterville California the ticket was a 3/8 keitech on a football jig before they hit the ground ,the fish were on it๐Ÿค™๐Ÿฝcan wait for it this year ..breaking PBs2019 !

  2. I agree. While I do like all the lure types ya mentioned for spring time staging/spawning fish, I notice the hard jerk bait IF it can be used ( because it's NOT weedless at all ) in the majority of situations just seems to attract more and even bigger fish. But not "always"………some days they don't even want a hard jerk bait…….and that's the mystery we call "fishing". But more often than not, they do seem to prefer a hard jerk bait here in central Florida. I think it may be due to the fact it is a hard bait, it displaces more water, or pressure waves that the bass pick up on via their lateral lines ( in addition to sight & sound ) and it excites them more vs soft baits. Of course a hard jerk bait can't be used at all ( or very little ) in heavily wooded areas and heavy grass, etc. Last but not least, here in my area lakes of east/central Florida, out of all the hard jerk baits on the market, I seem to catch much bigger fish on the old classic original #15-A Bomber Long-A. I've fished fancier more advanced & expensive hard jerk baits a lot, but I always go back to the Bomber Long-A. It just flat out attracts & catches truly big bass more so than any other. Not exactly sure why, but it does. I don't know about anywhere else ……..perhaps it's totally different. I catch at least several 6 to 8 lb'ers every spring on the Bomber Long-A down here. I've also been told by several Florida anglers that the Bomber Long-A is a classic favorite throughout our state. It makes a believer out of me……..every year.

  3. This gets over said but I can not thank you guys enough. I recently just got my huddleston 8" that I Ordered and I threw it for the first time. I got 3 bites on it in one area. First bite was on one side and the other 2 bites (back to back) was on the other side about 75 ft away from each other. All three bites were tick , tick, and tick. No bite like trying to rip the lure off. Sad thing is I didn't set the hook on any of those bites. ๐Ÿ™

  4. VA here water temp last fri was 45

  6. Fired up a school last spring with my son. We got around 40 bass in 3 hours out of same area all around 3lbs + was great. He then got his pb next day off another point fishing one of your jigs.

  7. Love it as usual. Matt, your delivery and information is top notch. It really helps me to "get it"! Thanks for posting so consistently in both cadence and quality! I have a question: if you were able to fish in Northern/Bay Area California during daylight on/around the new moon in April this year or the full moon in April this year, but not both, which would you prefer?

  8. If you guys get the opportunity to play around with the Terminator shuttering bladed jig and give some opinions on it Iโ€™d love to hear them. Or if youโ€™ve already played with it whatโ€™s your thoughts.
