Great video Steve- I learned some new tricks, thank you. I have trouble working a weightless fluke- it responds so super easily to rod movements that I end up over working it. Now I don't have an issue if I throw it out and just pop it along the surface- then I can get as aggressive as I want really and it still works but- when I try to fish it traditionally- letting it fall weightless, then giving it just a few small pops up toward the surface- like a dying shad- that's when I over do it. What's happening is that the fluke is responding before my line even pulls tight- as I start up with my rod and the line is still semi slack- the fluke is already responding to my inputs. This makes it very difficult to work it correctly to me. Using a belly weighted hook helped a tad but, then I lose that weightless, senko like fall.
So I think maybe I need to start fishing them on a spinning setup when I'm throwing them weightless like this. I need a line and rod setup so light and finesse it won't make the fluke respond until that line pulls tight. Right?
I thought that little sunfish was going to attack that bait. I’m going to try the Tokyo rig tip on my next trip.
