Its amazing to watch the defensive patterns change as the video progresses. In the beginning the smaller bass is totally focused on protecting the larger bass. By the end of the video the smaller fish has lost control and is just staying out of the way and the Monster bass attacks any swimbait that comes near its bed!
Anglers often over think their fishing but this is one time that I think we underestimate bass. There is a lot more going on during the spawn than we realize. From the surface of the water the concept seems simple but when we take an underwater look at the spawning process its amazing how many layers there really are to the bass’ behavior.
Its clear that blanket answers like “just throw white” or “catching spawning bass kills their nest” or “fishing during the spawn is cheating” simply aren’t accurate. Every bed and every bass is different. With a little patience and a lot of studying you can quickly analyze each fish and change your approach to become a much more effective and efficient bed fisherman.

Wow just seeing this out of the box https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.
Beautiful footage of beautiful fish. Thanks guys.
yes please
Very good video. Awesome to see what is really happening during this time of the year. Love to bed fish for largemouth bass but I never keep them or any largemouth for that matter unless it’s going on the wall.
Certainly a case to be made for a stinger treble back on the tail
Bank Fishing at falcon lake ( in Texas) back in 2012 I saw what looked like a 12” bass going around in circles, (what a fish does when it’s dying) the second time around he came up to the surface, this huge bass came to the surface right beside the dying fish and grabbed him by the head and took him underwater. I still remember that picture when that huge bass came up to the surface, he had to be every bit of 30 + inches long.
Not every angler is going to be able to get this guy back in 28 seconds. But great information!
I spent over thirty minutes trying to hook a bass on a bed even using a exposed hook on a red slug go the bass would hold it in it's mouth and i could not hook the sob. It was crazy
I don’t believe that’s the same male fish because the original male has a white spot on his left side near his tail and the fish that come to the bed after the catch does not have that white spot.
The bed was protected by the female.
28 secs is good and never happens, normally you take pictures or takes time to unhook etc.
Not sure why you try to justify catching bass during the spawn…its too easy, and yes it harms them.
Canada has laws for these very reasons.
It is NOT a misunderstanding. There are plenty of videos showing bluegills eating the basses eggs.
You guys are blessed to have lakes without moss everywhere … slow rolling big swimbaits is hard around here
Is that high pitch sound the fish finder ping?
That is so cool =)
These are pretty smart fish lol.
Definitely like to see more videos of different baits
Keep the footage in the video is coming awesome
Looks like a 125 lb Mexican dude protecting his 275 lbwhite girl 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣❤️🍻
Thank you for the awesome underwater video….so much to gain and understand…watching them both avoid the hooks does say alot about their intelligence rather its remembering what has happened to them or just natural instinct something isn't quite right about that meal…..or if it wasn't spawn time would one of them inhaled it sooner
I have watched this video so many times and it just never gets old. I am so intrigued with the underwater videography and you guys do an amazing job at it.
Such devoted husband!🤣🤣👍
This just let me know how much I helped my small pond by releasing to contribuye to the next spawn.
Love it good conversation.
